My extensive background in psychotherapy research equips me to train
a variety of healthcare professions in research and evaluation relating
to psychological interventions. The approach taken is discussed
with the client in advance. For example, the requirement may be
for an emphasis on practice-based research, evaluating prior research
literature, or on developing qualitative or quantitative research
skills. For example, in 2004/5 I contributed a Research Module
to the Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Person-centred Psychotherapy
and Counselling at Temenos.
My distinctive therapy
skills are in Psychodynamic-Interpersonal therapy based on the Conversational
Model of Robert
F Hobson. This is an evidence-based
method, drawing upon a range of skills and concepts that many service
users and health professionals find congenial. For example,
a group of mental health nurses with the Leeds
Mental Health Trust have trained other mental health workers
following a period of training with myself. They wrote up
their experience for publication.
I also
evaluate training. For example, with Anne Rees I recently
evaluated an effective
teamworking and leadership in mental health programme for the
NHS
Modernisation Agency's Leadership Centre.
